Jodi Geddes: from marketing assistant to co-founder of HR tech company, Circle In.
Jodi knows first-hand how hard it can be to juggle work and family, and she wants Circle In to lead global change for working caregivers and families.
Short Cuts is an interview series in which Upside participants answer eight quick questions about their background, ambitions, and the superpower they’ve always wanted.
Jodi started work as a Marketing Assistant for a discount store. She would make and occasionally appear in three 30-second ads a week.
Having always been a passionate and driven person, Jodi puts her mind to something and doesn’t stop until she achieves it. She and her co-founder Kate hit it off when they first met, and Jodi knew they were a great match. The pair have not looked back from that first conversation.
Jodi knows first-hand how hard it can be to juggle work and family, and she wants Circle In to lead the charge towards global change for working caregivers and families. She loves knowing that the company has a real impact on people’s lives every day.
Jodi lives in Melbourne with her husband, two daughters, and a dog called Clifford.
Jodi, who did you look up to when you were younger?
My dad. He was hard on us but was always successful and achieved anything he put his mind to. He taught me to follow my heart, have big dreams, and never give up.
And who do you look up to now?
Gosh, so many people. As a founder, you are surrounded by amazing and inspiring people every day. I look up to the obvious people, like Mel (from Canva), but I also look up to Kate and admire her work ethic, leadership, and balance. She has taught me so much, and I will forever be grateful.
Tell us about the most valuable life lesson you’ve learned so far.
That life is too short, and you need to embrace every opportunity. I almost lost my brother ten years ago. The moment I received the phone call, everything changed. It also taught me that nothing is impossible. When people say you can't, it's simply untrue.
Describe what success looks like to you.
Being balanced, respected, and inspiring. I want a balanced home life and to be present for my girls; I want to be respected by my team and others; and I want to inspire the next group of founders behind us.
Tell us about something that you’re curious about at the moment.
How to enter a new market. It's daunting but very exciting. I am curious to know everything about this, what to do and what not to do.
What brings you joy?
My family, my kids, and making sales. :)
How would you describe your leadership style?
Authentic, real, honest, and transparent
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
The ability to not take things so personally!
We’re all a work in progress.
